Ford Safety Technology and Systems
At Ford, the safety of drivers and their passengers has always been the main concern when engineering every vehicle. Where once ensuring driver safety used to mean engineering a vehicle that can stand up to collisions effectively, now means avoiding collisions altogether. While every Ford vehicle is still made to stand up to collisions with enhanced airbag systems, durable bodies, and strong frames, it now also means equipping each vehicle with a series of driver assist technology and collision mitigation systems. If you're interested in learning more about what a Ford vehicle can offer you in terms of safety, we're going to highlight some of the most impressive safety features offered throughout the entire fleet of new Ford models, including driver assist features, crash prevention systems and the latest airbag technologies.
Ford Crash Prevention Systems
One of the main crash prevention systems that you'll find throughout the fleet of new Ford models is Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. Pre-Collision Assist acts as an extra set of eyes out on the road, using cameras and sensors to detect a potential collision with a car or a pedestrian in front of you. The system will provide you with an audible alert as well as a warning flash on your windshield in front of you. The system will then prep the brakes for maximum responsiveness and in the event that you fail to brake on time, the vehicle can apply the brakes for you. Another main crash prevention systems is the Blind Spot Information System. This system uses radar in the rear quarter panels to detect if there is a vehicle in your blind spot and if there is it will warn you with a visual alert on your sideview mirror. Like the Blind Spot Information System, many new Ford models also come equipped with Cross-Traffic Alert. This available features uses radar to check for traffic behind you while you're backing out of a parking spot or driveway and will warn you if a vehicle is approaching from up to 15 yards away through an audible and visual alert.
Ford Driver Assist Technologies
Parking can be difficult and even dangerous sometimes. That's why many new Ford models offer enhanced active park assist with parallel and reverse perpendicular parking. This system will determine whether your desired parking space is large enough for you and can assist you in backing your vehicle into the spot and pulling out of it, so all you have to do is shift into gear, accelerate, and brake, the system will take care of the rest. For long highway commutes, many new Ford models come with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go. This system uses radar sensors to maintain a safe distance with the vehicle ahead of you and can accelerate and decelerate accordingly to the flow of traffic. Most new Ford models also come equipped with a standard rearview camera to make backing up easier and safer than ever.
Ford Airbag Technology
Every Ford vehicle is equipped with the latest airbag technology, including dual-stage driver and front-passenger airbags, a driver's knee airbag, front seat mounted side airbags, and Safety Canopy System with two-row side-curtain airbags. One of the newest airbag innovations is the new inflatable rear safety belts that can distribute crash-force to reduce the risk of injury.
