The 2017 Ford Explorer is available in five trim levels -- Base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum -- and offers a number of available premium features including keyless entry and push-button ignition, a foot-activated liftgate, premium sound system, and Ford's new Sync 3 8-inch touchscreen interface with Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone integration.

Explorer also offers a rearview camera as standard equipment and a full suite of available advanced safety and driver assistance technologies. These include a forward collision warning system with brake priming, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.

Under the hood, Explorer finds its motivation in three available engine options. A standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine generates 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque while achieving a combined EPA-estimated fuel rating of 20 mpg. Also available is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 280 horsepower and achieves a 22 mpg combined. Finally, a 3.5-liter V-6 power plant that delivers 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque is standard on Sport and Platinum trims. Properly equipped, a V-6 explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
